Using multiple monitors for a single computer has become a popular way to do more with the computer. Gaming is easier with a second monitor for more space, and studies have shown that using multiple monitors on a single computer actually increases the productivity of the average office worker. Most new hardware and all modern operating systems have support for multiple-monitor setups, but some additional hardware may be required to have more than two monitors.
Assuming you have the appropriate hardware to accomplish the task, setting up three monitors to your PC can further increase your productivity by allowing you to super-multitask across the landscape of a full three desktops. This procedure requires you to have either a graphics card that has three output connections or multiple graphics cards in your computer that total up to at least three output connections. Assuming the hardware is in place, the connection process is not substantially difficult.
Step 1
Connect one monitor to your video card as normal, using the required cable (whether DVI, VGA or HDMI). This will be your main display, so set it directly in front of your computer chair.
Step 2
Attach the second monitor to the alternate port on your video card, then reboot your computer. Your PC will automatically detect the second monitor.
Step 3
Go to the "Display Options" page by right-clicking on the desktop then selecting the "Properties" option. From there, click on your second monitor (which will be listed in the drop-down menu), then check the box for "Extend My Desktop Onto This Display."
Step 4
Connect the third monitor to your original video card (if it has three outputs) or to another video card, then reboot your machine again.
Step 5
Go to the "Display Options" page by right-clicking on the desktop then selecting the "Properties" option. From there, click on your third monitor (which will be listed in the drop down menu), then check the box for "Extend My Desktop Onto This Display."
